Navigating Course Content

On the Course Home there is a notice regarding how to access content. Choose the Content tool in the Navigation Bar at the top of the page. Content leads to a page that contains the course navigation tree on the left-hand side of the page.

Find Syllabus

Overview is the first item in the course navigation tree. It will display a welcome from your instructor in addition to the course syllabus.

Table of Contents

Next go to the Table of Contents to view a list of modules and content items within the course. For online courses, modules are named by week (Week 1, Week 2…), and for self-paced web based courses they are named by unit (Unit 1, Unit 2…).

Note: If your instructor has set up certain modules to release after you have satisfied a certain condition (such as completion of an end-of-week/unit quiz or specified date and time), you may not be able to view all modules until you progress through the course.

Tip: The numbers next to each module indicate how many content items are included; these numbers will update as you view and/or complete each content item.

There are three ways to navigate course content: breadcrumb trail, side panel and the previous/next buttons.

Breadcrumb Trail:

Use the links at the top of the page to navigate backward through content beginning with the content item (U1: Introduction), module (Unit 1) and back to the Table of Contents.

Side Panel:

1. Click the arrow on the left side of the page to expand the side panel.

2. The side panel contains direct links to the Table of Contents and each content item within the module. Navigate to the next (or a previous) module using the arrow icons.

3. Click the arrow again to collapse the side panel.

Next/Previous Buttons

In the top right corner choose the previous buttons to move between content items. When you reach the end of the unit uiuLearn will return you to the Table of Contents.

1. As you work through your course you are able to create a bookmark for any content item. Click the bookmark icon in the top right corner of the page.

2. When a content item is bookmarked the bookmark icon will turn red. To remove the bookmark click the icon again. Or go to the table of contents to manage all bookmarks.

3. Bookmarks is the second item in the menu on the left-hand side of the course navigation tree. A list of your bookmarks is available. Each bookmark is a direct link to the content item. Or use the dropdown arrow to remove the bookmark.
